I must say, the kitchen storage space is severally lacking in our farmhouse. We moved from a new construction house with a beautiful kitchen that had a walk in pantry. On the other hand, the farmhouse has no pantry, no island and hardly any cabinet space. It does, however, have a widow overlooking the mountains. I’ll take this view any day. I’m trying to use space throughout the house wisely, seeing as how there isn’t a single closet on the first floor. I want to take you along on as we organization our farmhouse, whether a big or small project. First up, how to organize kitchen spices.

Choosing the Right Kitchen Spice Rack
You can free up cabinet space by placing essential items in a condensed area on the counter. I found a spice rack that fit nicely next to the stove. Consequently, if you are keeping items out in the open you want to choose something that is decorative. I found this wire spice rack that matched the farmhouse decor. These 4 ounce square glass jars fit perfectly inside the spice rack and they came with chalk labels.
Steps to Organize Kitchen Spices
- Gather all odd and end spice jars and containers.
- Determine what spices you use most often.
- Use a funnel to pour the spices into the glass jars.
- Label the spice jars using a chalk marker.
- Place the spice jars into a decorative spice rack.
It’s really just that simple! I used a kitchen cabinet spice organizer for spices that I decided to keep in the cabinet. It allows you to see what is behind everything without digging through the cabinet. It’s nice to have all of our kitchen spices neatly organized and easy to access. What are you waiting for? It’s your turn to start organizing your kitchen today!
Upcoming Farmhouse Kitchen Renovations
Aside from organizing, the kitchen is going to be our biggest renovation project. We’ve already painted, changed the light fixtures and added some open shelving. Next, we plan to paint the cabinets white and replace the hardware. After that, we plan to build an island for extra storage, counter space and a place to sit. In addition, we eventually want to replace the countertop with granite. That would be a good time to install a farmhouse sink and faucet. Lastly, we’d like to lay a white subway tile backsplash. This is all going to take some time but these renovations will transform the kitchen into a classic farmhouse kitchen.
